The
All Progressive congress, APC, in Rivers State, yesterday, shunned inspection
of materials at the state headquarters of the Rivers State Independent
Electoral Commission, INEC, insisting on forensic examination of the materials.
The
party in a statement by its Publicity secretary, Mr Chris Finebone, said that
they had to withdraw from the exercise because INEC allegedly flaunted the
order of the court that it should allow it conduct forensic examination on the
election materials.
“However,
on the morning of today [yesterday), Julius Mba, announced that the INEC will
no more allow the scanning and cropping of ballot papers and other materials
which are at the centre of forensic examination and analysis as ordered by the
tribunal.”
Meanwhile,
flanked by the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dame Gecilia Khan and counsel
to Governor Nyesom Wike, Mr Dan Oko, SAN, Mr Sam Wonosike of the Peoples
Democratic Party, PDP, External counsel to INEC, Mr Julius Mba, said he was
surprised that the APC was not around for the inspection exercise.
He
said all parties, including INEC agreed to allow inspection of the various
materials used for the governorship election at a meeting recently.
He
said that when the decision was documented allegedly on the insistence of
representatives of the APC at a follow up meeting on Tuesday, they refused to
sign their column.
