Hurricane Katrina: New Orleans marks 10 years since disaster
Commemorations are taking place in the US city of New Orleans to mark the 10th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina.
At a memorial service, Mayor Mitch Landrieu recalled how residents had turned to each other for support.
Former President Bill Clinton later spoke at a concert in the city.
Hurricane
Katrina killed nearly 2,000 people and displaced one million. It was
the most expensive natural disaster in US history and caused destruction
along the Gulf coast.
In New Orleans, the failure of the levee system left about 80% of the city under water.
Mayor
Landrieu led a sombre tribute to the 83 unidentified victims whose
bodies lie in mausoleums at the city's Hurricane Katrina Memorial. "Though they are unnamed, they are not unclaimed because we claim them," he said.

IT CAN NEVER BE THIS MORE EXCITING!
Real Madrid 5-0 Real Betis: Gareth Bale strikes after just 94 seconds and James Rodriguez nets spectacular double as pressure eases on Rafa Benitez with La Liga rout
Gareth Bale leaps into the air with a clenched fist as the Real Madrid
forward celebrates opening the scoring at the Bernabeu on Saturday
With the
Costan Rican keeper having his finest night since joining Real Madrid
last summer and Bale back to his very best form it was also a night for
comebacks.
Karim
Benzema, who also scored, was back in the team, and so was Colombian
midfielder James whose breathtaking brace was the highlight of the 5-0
demolition of Pepe Mel’s newly-promoted side.
The
Colombian was the star of the show right from Real’s first goal when he
sent a dipping cross into the area and Bale timed his run perfectly to
send a stooping header from 10 yards out past the onrushing Betis keeper
Antonio Adan.
There were 94 seconds on the clock making it the fastest goal of his Real Madrid career so far.
Real
Madrid could have doubled their lead several times before the half
hour. Benzema nearly headed in a Ronaldo cross just failing to meet the
centre, Toni Kroos sent a long shot just wide, and Adan had to stand up
well to block a Ronaldo shot at his near post.
On
38 minutes it was 2-0 and it was James who got it taking the paint off
Adan’s far post as he bent in a left-footed free-kick from the
right-hand side of the penalty area after Ronaldo had been fouled by
Francisco Molinero.
There
was still time for Navas to save at the feet of Ruben Castro as Betis
squandered their best chance of the first half. It was a significant
moment as with Florentino Perez in the directors box pondering that big
money move for De Gea, the Bernabeu crowd began to chant 'Keylor!
Keylor!'.
It’s
been a long time since supporters have united behind a Real keeper. The
club could still move for De Gea but it’s clear there will be no
supporter protests if they don’t.

accurate cross past the Real Betis goalkeeper inside two minutes

The former Tottenham forward performs his trademark heart celebration
after kick-starting Real Madrid's season after last week's stalemate

James scored a spectacular overhead kick to make it 4-0 and send Rafa
Benitez's side on their way on to their first win of the season

"ONCE BEATEN........ TWICE SHY!"
Jose Mourinho threatens Chelsea stars with axe as boss lays blame of defeat by Crystal Palace at the feet of three underperformers
Jose Mourinho has threatened to axe his under-performing stars after their latest early-season flop.
Joel Ward scored a shock winner for Crystal Palace against Chelsea in Mourinho's 100th Premier League game at Stamford Bridge.
The
defeat was only the Portuguese's second in a league game at the stadium
and leaves the champions with just four points from as many games.

The Chelsea boss suffered only his second home league defeat in 100 games at Stamford Bridge

Jose Mourinho was unhappy with Chelsea's performance as his side lost at home against Crystal Palace

Palace's players celebrate by the corner flag after Chelsea's star men underperformed on Saturday, as Courtois looks saddened
And the Special One identified three Blues players who he felt were below-par, but refused to name the culprits.
But
Mourinho revealed his patience is starting to wear thin, saying: 'If a
player is not performing there are two ways to look at it.
'The
first one is that I trust the player so much that I will wait for the
improvement. You wait, wait, and wait and maybe it comes or it doesn't
come.
'Or, even when you are trusting the player arrives a moment when you think, "I have to change". And I can go both ways.

100 PERCENT START, STILL IN VOGUE!
Manchester City 2-0 Watford: Raheem Sterling nets first goal since £49m move as Manuel Pellegrini's side maintain perfect start
Manchester
City fans chanted 'Raheem Sterling... he's top of the league' as the
£49million winger scored his first goal for the club and maintained
their blistering 100 per cent start to the season.
The likelihood is those supporters will be able to carry on with their ditty uninterrupted for the next nine months.
Of
course, as managers and cliché-mongers will tell you, trophies aren't
handed out in August. Even so, you won't find many putting money on
anyone else winning the Premier League.

City have
won all four matches to date, scoring 10 and conceding none. Their best
players are all performing well; particularly the spine of Joe Hart,
Vincent Kompany, Yaya Toure, David Silva and Sergio Aguero.
And
they have the final piece in the jigsaw, £54million winger Kevin de
Bruyne from Wolfsburg, about to arrive after having a medical in
Manchester on Saturday.
In
his programme notes, manager Manuel Pellegrini wrote that 'everything
has gone to plan so far'. He's not kidding. City stand three points
clear at the top and have now won a club record 10 league games in a
row, including the six at the back end of the last campaign.
A routine
home victory against newly-promoted Watford – who were well-organised
and deserved going into the half-time break goalless – will not go down
in the annals of club history, but it will always be remembered sweetly
in the Sterling household.
After
the rancour of his summer move from Liverpool, the young man was able
to show what he can do on the pitch, capped by a nonchalant volleyed
finish from Bacary Sagna's cross that broke the deadlock two minutes
after the interval.
The
normally understated Pellegrini was able to pat himself on the back for
making the half-time change - Samir Nasri for Jesus Navas - that
allowed Sterling to move from the left to partner Aguero up front

Stopped in his tracks... by a SEGWAY! Usain Bolt is floored by scooting cameraman seconds after clinching sprint double at World Championships in Beijing
Justin Gatlin tried his best but in the end he could do nothing to stop Usain Bolt coasting to the World Championships gold medal in the 200 metres.
Bolt then celebrated his victory on the track and was closely followed by a cameraman who was riding on an electric Segway
In
fact, it would not be unfair to say there was more incident after the
race to worry Bolt as he convincingly completed the sprint double over
his arch rival.
In
the space of a few minutes while taking part in his lap of honour, an
over-zealous fan jumped over a barrier to try to get a picture with
Bolt. Security staff gave chase and tackled the culprit to the ground,
before bundling him off the track and down a tunnel.
The cameraman took him out from behind and Bolt’s legs, surely the most prized in world sport, were taken from underneath him
A side-on view of the men's 200m final on Thursday as Bolt breezes to his second gold medal of the World Championships
In a jovial
press conference beneath the Bird’s Nest, Bolt joked the cameraman who
crashed into him may have been paid by ex-doper Gatlin, beaten into the
silver medal position for a second time in one week.
A
barefoot Bolt was facing the stands saluting fans when the TV cameraman
lost control of the motorised board he was riding and hit the sprinter
from behind.
Bolt
fell backwards on to the cameraman but escaped serious injury. ‘I don’t
have my legs insured but I might think about it after that,’ he said.
‘He took the worst of it so I checked he was OK and he said sorry as
much as he could. He may have hit his head. I have a few cuts but I’m
fine.’
Bolt’s
100m gold on Sunday was billed as a victory for the sport because it
prevented a twice-convicted drugs cheat winning athletics flagship event
— but his 200m win in 19.55sec was the more impressive performance.
It
was the quickest he had run since winning at London 2012 and the 10th
fastest time in history to secure his 10th World Championships gold.
Bolt looked more at ease at the start than he had for the 100m, doing
his usual preening and getting out of the blocks well.He and Gatlin were
level with 80m to go but Bolt executed his trademark kick to accelerate
clear, with Gatlin finishing in 19.74sec. Anaso Jobodwana, 23, took
bronze in 19.87sec, a South African record.
Bolt
jogged through the line beating his clenched fists against his chest.
‘It means a lot,’ he said. ‘Leading up to the 200m, I heard Justin
Gatlin saying that he has something special for the 200m. I was like,
“What?”
‘I
take the 200m a lot more serious than the 100m. So when somebody is
going to talk that they are going to beat me, that is the only reason I
really celebrate.’
Bolt
then dealt a blow to the organisers of the London 2017 World
Championships by suggesting he was only ‘50/50’ to attend, having
previously suggested he would carry on after the Olympics in Rio.
